Carl Gutwin is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan. He is the director of the Interaction Lab and a co-theme leader in the SurfNet research network, where his research interests are computer-supported cooperative work, groupware, interaction techniques, information visualization, and interface design. He is internationally known for his work in the human factors of distributed collaboration, groupware toolkits, and evaluation techniques for collaboration tools. 

Carl has undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Computer Science, and received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Calgary where he worked on issues of group awareness in real-time distributed groupware.
