GRAND Workshop (Calgary)

March 1, 2012 | Calgary, Canada

The Graphics, Animation and New Media Network of Centres of Excellence (“GRAND”) is pleased to hold a workshop at the University of Calgary on March 1, 2012 on the general theme of realistic computer generated images and modeling for game development design and/or training.

The workshops will provide a forum for the communication of research results and highlight the development of innovative graphics, animations and new digital media in Western Canada. In addition, the workshops will offers a networking opportunity for researchers to meet with potential industry receptors of the technology with the twin objectives of alerting industry players to the research underway in the computing labs and increasing university researchers’ awareness and understanding of industry’s digital media needs and problems.

The goal is to stimulate discussions between industry and the GRAND research community and to identify future research problems and solutions, and potentially to stimulate the development of on-going working relationships. Technology transfer is a major issue for academics and industry alike and the workshop will identify the challenges and rewards of moving technology out of the universities and include discussions on IP protection and possible transfer/commercialization avenues.
