NEUROGAME2 Workshop

October 18, 2014 | Toronto, ON

NEUROGAME2 is a proposed collaboration between the GRAND and the NeuroDevNet Networks of Centres of Excellence. NEUROGAME2 will be focused on research into the use of new media to treat children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

If approved, NEUROGAME2 will fund collaborations between GRAND and NeuroDevNet researchers to invent, develop and evaluate new media technologies (such as games or virtual worldinterventions), leading to innovative intervention strategies for children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) with a focus on autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy (CP) or fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD.) There is also interest in interventions that work to ameliorate common co-morbidities in NDDs.

NEUROGAME2 will be funded and managed jointly by the two NCEs. We expect that funding will be separate from other GRAND and NeuroDevNet projects, so it is possible for people who have already committed their funding envelope to take part.

NEUROGAME2 follows the successful GRAND/NeuroDevNet NEUROGAME project, which sponsored projects inareas including exergaming for children with CP, neuro-feedback intervention for children with FASD, and cognitive training games for children with FASD.

To move the proposal forward more concretely, we will hold a one-day workshop on October 18, 2014 in Toronto to bring together researchers from both networks in order to fostercollaborations. The goal of the workshop will be the development of formal proposals to be evaluated by GRAND and NeuroDevNet. The full proposal will be submitted on December 15, 2014, to allow funding to start in April 2015 should the proposal be accepted. The morning will be devoted to short talks, allowing attendees to learn of each others’ work. The afternoon will be devoted to networking and generation of project ideas. A dinner in the evening will allow the continuation of discussion.

Participation is open to all GRAND and NeuroDevNet investigators and their HQP. Registration will befree, and limited travel subsidies may be available to investigators who otherwise would not be able to attend.
