The Art and Science of Reading Digital

September 21, 2012 | Vancouver, BC

The Art and Science of Reading Digital is a one-day symposium at the University of British Columbia featuring keynote speaker Dr. Richard Kopak, the Ischool, UBC.

With the advent of high quality and widely available mobile reading devices, the dominance of print as the preferred medium for reading is giving way to the digital—fundamentally changing the reading experience.

This symposium will bring together researchers and students from a range of disciplines to discuss the phenomenon of reading digital from diverse social, cultural, physical, intellectual, material, and technological perspectives.

The symposium will be held in conjunction with the exhibition “Scrolling through Time: The Evolution of Reading Devices” at UBC Library’s Rare Book and Special Collections.

The Art and Science of Reading Digital is sponsored by the Digital Information Interaction Group (DiiG) at the iSchool at the University of British Columbia with support from a UBC Hampton Fund grant. The student paper competition is sponsored by DiiG and the GRAND Network of Centres of Excellence.

Event Date: Friday, September 21, 10am-5pm
Event Location: Lillooet Room, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, 1961 East Mall, UBC
